Highway Foreman
The Greenwood Highway Department is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Highway Foreman to join our dedicated team. Under the general supervision of the Town Manager, the successful candidate would manage all activities of the Department. The Highway Foreman must be personable, dependable, and knowledgeable in all aspects of the job and able to balance administrative duties with time spent in the field. This includes, but is not limited to: manage crew to complete daily/weekly assignments, active participation in annual budgets, accounts payable, proficient in Microsoft Office as well as other computer programs, public road repair, reconstruction and maintenance, plowing and removal of snow, knowledge of operating a variety of equipment, familiar with OSHA safety regulations that are associated with the construction industry, as well as scheduling of department activities and projects. Must also be able to respond in a timely matter to all citizens concerns/complaints.
This position regularly interacts with the public and works with other Town departments to assist the Town to meet service objections. Proven leadership, customer service focus and strong communications skills are a must. This position requires the ability to be on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and report to work within 30 minutes of a call out all year.
The Town is looking for an applicant with at least a minimum of five years’ experience in a Highway Department field, including supervisory and/or Highway management. Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment physical is required to ensure candidates have the ability, physical strength, and agility sufficient to perform all assignments of the job description. The successful applicant must have a Maine Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and applicants will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances prior to employment. The successful candidate will be subject to further testing throughout their period of employment. Applicants must have a clean driving record and satisfactorily complete a background check. Position is open until a qualified candidate is chosen.
